Gentoo delivers further new housing for Sunderland

This year will see Gentoo deliver a range of new homes developments as part of its ongoing commitment to Sunderland and creating high quality new housing in the city.

Continuing the Group’s significant property investment in Sunderland since 2001, 2015 will see further site completions and other new key sites launching, complementing the more than 1,800 new homes already built throughout Sunderland by Gentoo.

The Group has recently completed the build of its £14 million development at Haddington Vale in Doxford Park. A total of 96 homes have been built on the latest phase of the Doxford Park masterplan.

The £16.3million Ryhope development is also nearing a close, with completion of the 143 houses, bungalows and apartments. Set in the centre of a small long-established village, the new homes are all for rent with the exception of two.

As these developments complete, three key new sites are underway at Doxford Park, Downhill and High Ford, totalling a further investment by Gentoo of £45.8 million and an additional 366 homes.

All of the 155, homes on this latest £24 million phase at Doxford Park development are for sale. The first homes at Thurcroft were released on 1 August generating high customer interest.

The £10.1 million development at Downhill, named Castle Rise, will bring a mixture of 88 houses and bungalows, all featuring photo voltaic panels as standard to help reduce energy bills for customers. 37 of the homes will be for sale, with the remainder for rent.

The £11.7 million Hillcrag development at High Ford will have a selection of 123 properties for rent which will be built over a three year period. Again the development will include environmental measures such as photo voltaic panels.

The Leader of Sunderland City Council, Councillor Paul Watson said: “A vital part of the continuing regeneration of our city is being able to provide people with a greater choice of homes and accommodation.

“Working with our development partners we can achieve that long term aim, with Gentoo’s investment in new housing a vital part of that building process.” Portfolio Holder for Health, Housing and Adult Services, Cllr Graeme Miller added: “We want to help create sustainable communities which are socially, physically and environmentally better for everyone.

“These new developments will suit a range of housing needs. They are designed with energy conservation in mind to help reduce household costs and make them even more affordable.” The next development in Gentoo’s pipeline is the next phase of the £9.26 million Holmlands development in Houghton-le-Spring. Sitting adjacent to the current Meadow View site, the next phase will provide 78 new homes which will be released for sale early next year.

The Group continues to make plans for its remaining renewal sites at Pennywell, Glebe and Broomhill.
