Chapel Allerton bar becomes first UK venue to offer ‘super-locally sourced’ specials
The opening of a new Leeds bar marks the first time a UK venue will only use ‘super-locally’ sourced ingredients in its food and drink menu; which is grown seconds from its front door by the residents of Chapel Allerton.
Kith & Kin, which officially opened on September 4th, is the latest concept from growing Leeds-based leisure group, Arc Inspirations LLP.
Arc Inspirationsinvested £350k into revamping Kith & Kin, which which previously Zed Bar, located on Stainbeck Lane.
The group has now formed a unique collaboration with members of the Chapel Allerton Allotment and Gardens Association – as well as all the area’s local “windowsill growers” - to offer a selection of ‘super-locally sourced’ specials on the new Kith & Kin food and drinks menus.
The new bar and kitchen (previously Zed Bar) will feature reclaimed wood, exposed brick and bespoke décor, as well as a ‘local heroes’ photography wall, showcasing the efforts of the local community.
Nominated by the public, Kith & Kin local heroes include six year old Llyall Cookward, who has battled serious health issues since birth, and Gill Speight, owner of Angels gift shop, who was nominated for her unparalleled customer service.
Martin Wolstencroft, managing director at Arc Inspirations LLP, commented: “We are really excited to unveil this new concept to our customers. We put a lot of time and effort into creating something totally new and unique to the area, whilst genuinely supporting and celebrating the local community in which we operate.
“With Kith & Kin, we wanted to focus on the hidden treasures Chapel Allerton has to offer – from the community, to the landscapes and history, even down to the amazing produce grown right here on our doorstep. We have exciting new food and drinks menus with some amazing cocktails and rustic dishes, and the initial feedback has been incredibly positive”.
In addition, Kith & Kin will also support local organisation Inkwell – part of the Leeds Mind charity. The new ‘Inkwell Burger’ which features halloumi burger, Spanish red peppers and butternut squash, will see 25p from each order go to the charity which aims to challenge the stigma of mental health and offer a safe and creative environment to engage and stimulate through art and creativity.
Boris Cruse, Inkwell founder, added: “We are delighted to be working closely with Kith & Kin and the new Inkwell burger is definitely one to try! We will have some of our Inkwell’s artists work featuring in the new bar and their support for us, and the local community, has been incredibly well received.”
