The importance of Leadership Development in your organisation

Consistently, leadership development has been recognised as an urgent requirement for many organisations across the United Kingdom. Increased competition and challenges within the UK economy has led to new ways of thinking about the nature of leaders and leadership development, and highlight the need for organisations to embed a culture of leadership development at all levels. The landscape of leadership development has changed dramatically over the last decade. Improved accessibility, increased globalisation and the amplified speed of business present new and exciting opportunities for the on going growth and development of organisations within the UK.

In a world where knowledge is expanding at such a rapid rate and innovation is prominent across industries, organisations consistently have to deal with and respond to changes in the direction and foundation of their organisational goals. Whilst change provides exciting prospects, it also unearths new challenges for today’s leaders who continually need to flex and adapt in order to respond positively to new territories and uncertain circumstances.

The evolving challenges that businesses are facing in today’s competitive environment mean that the lifespan of leadership skills only last a few years. This emphasises the need for leaders to constantly develop their knowledge and skills in order to ensure that organisations remain globally fluent and flexible, with workforces who are engaged in their vision and inspired to achieve their goals and objectives.

The continued need for leaders to focus on the continual development of their skills has accelerated; essentially, developing leaders at all levels provide organisations with a competitive edge. Organisations that invest in the development of a strong leadership culture have the ability to outperform their competitors through continuous periods of sustained performance. As a result these organisations typically experience increased; revenue, profitability, and operational excellence.

However, arguably of greatest importance is the improved strength of an organisation’s leadership team who are able to motivate, inspire and engage their staff in the vision and values of an organisation. By developing leadership excellence across all levels, organisations are able to align their leadership and business strategies to develop effective approaches to succession planning in order to identify and develop recognised talented individuals with the attributes to fill key leadership positions within an organisation.

In a time when the UK economy is showing signs of growth, and recovery from the economic recession is in sight, the importance of leadership development has never been greater. Embedding leadership development strategies is recognised as the key to organisational growth and therefore investing in your leadership team is critical to the development of your organisation.
