Amec Foster Wheeler sheds light on CERN contracts

Amec Foster Wheeler has secured a series of radiochemical testing contracts from the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), the group behind the world’s biggest particle accelerator.

The projects have seen Warrington-based Amec Foster Wheeler analyse waste components from various high-energy accelerators, including Switzerland’s Large Hadron Collider, at its laboratory in Birchwood.

Greg Willetts is the consultancy director at Clean Energy Europe, which is part of Amec Foster Wheeler.

He said: “CERN is one of the world’s most prestigious science projects and sets very high standards for its suppliers.

“We have received excellent feedback about the quality of our work and have exceeded CERN’s expectations by delivering fully accredited results within five weeks on average, rather than the three months specified in the contracts.”

Greg added: “We aim to build on this developing relationship with CERN and offer a wider range of Amec Foster Wheeler services.”

Amec Foster Wheeler’s North West radiochemical laboratories, which are some of the UK’s largest, carry out independent tests for a number of organisations, including research institutes, nuclear operators, contaminated land consultants and decommissioning contractors.
