Barnsley design firm relocates to new premises as wedding business grows
A Barnsley marketing and design company, which also works in the wedding sector, has relocated to more central premises in the town.
Wilson Design House, which was established 16 years ago, has opened a new office at The Coach House in Sackville Street.
The business is being given free support by Enterprising Barnsley, a European-funded programme which is delivered by Barnsley Council.
Richard Wilson, managing director of Wilson Design House, said: “We are delighted to be more centrally located. Our new office offers a flexible layout with better facilities for our clients - and it’s in a great location, right on the edge of the town centre.”
Set up in 1999, the company is a design agency offering creative solutions to a range of businesses, including support with branding, websites, social media, marketing and publications. Its clients include Sash UK, Crema Coffee UK, Barnardo’s, Lynx Employment Services, and 315 Bar and Restaurant in Lepton, Huddersfield.
Six years ago, Richard launched a separate company, organising wedding events and publishing a free magazine called ‘I Do’. Seventeen thousand copies of the magazine are distributed to bridal shops, wedding venues and fayres across Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The two businesses now run side by side.
Richard said: “The response to the magazine and wedding fayres has been phenomenal.
“We currently organise the largest one-day wedding exhibition and catwalk show in the UK under the brand name of ‘I Do’, and the magazine was born out of a desire to do it right - there is no expense spared on the production. As we have a design background the magazine is of the highest quality.”
In 2014, Wilson Design House gained ISO9001 accreditation with the support of Enterprising Barnsley. It has also been supported to create an app for ‘I Do’ and appoint a digital programmer to assist with its website work.
Richard commented: “The help we received was invaluable. The Quality Assurance makes everyone more accountable and the business more streamlined. Enterprising Barnsley are brilliant at helping us to source solutions.”
Angela Pedley of Enterprising Barnsley also said: “Wilson Design House is an example of a company that is really going places.
“It takes time and commitment to gain Quality Assurance, but the company is already reaping the benefits. And it’s great that they have decided to relocate to the town centre where they will be better placed to serve their clients and give them space to grow.”
