North West jobs market stable despite lower advertised salaries
The average advertised salary in the North West saw a year-on-year drop of 1.2% in August, according to new data from job site Adzuna.
In its August Jobs Report, the company said the average pay for roles advertised in the North West is now £30,080, compared to the national average of £33,318.
In its list of the worst cities to look for a job, Adzuna ranked the Wirral in eighth place, where it said there are 2.23 jobseekers per advertised role, and Salford tenth, where the figure stands at 1.59.
Conversely, Manchester was the only North West city to make the list of the 10 best places to look for a job, coming in seventh place with an average of 0.27 jobseekers for every role.
Adzuna co-founder Andrew Hunter commented: “The promises of the Northern Powerhouse have not spread to the wider region, as the North East in particular continues to suffer from a lack of skilled workers.”
The North East saw a year-on-year drop of 1.3% in advertised salaries, the largest in the North. Overall, London and Scotland were the hardest hit regions, with drops of 5.3% and 5.2% respectively.
Andrew continued: “Key areas such as Manchester and Salford may have seen a more stable jobs market but Northern workers need to keep trying to improve their skills and grab those vacancies.”
