Peaky Blinders film crew returns to Liverpool for third season

The actors and film crew behind the BBC gangster drama Peaky Blinders are set to return to Liverpool this year to shoot a third series.

A number of historical locations across the city will be used this autumn to recreate 1920s Birmingham, with Liverpool’s assistant mayor highlighting the economic benefit the production will bring.

Cllr Wendy Simon, who is the cabinet member for the Liverpool Film Office, said: “We’re delighted this quality drama is returning to the city and it could not come at a better time with the recent decision to approve plans for a major new studio development at the former Littlewoods Building.

“The production was filmed here last year over a three-month period, and saw around 120 cast and crew make the region their temporary home, giving a great boost to the local economy.”

She added: “These really are exciting times, and we look forward to welcoming more top-class productions later on in the year.”

Peaky Blinders producer Simon Maloney called Liverpool a “terrific” place to film due to its period architecture and the proximity of countryside locations.

Liverpool City Council reported that production levels have risen by 22% in 2015. Dramas were filmed in the city for ITV and Sky1 in recent months, as well as the BBC’s Close to the Enemy, which stars actors Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep.
