£2.8m residential scheme planned for Sheffield

Sheffield City Council has received a planning application for a £2.8m residential development in Broomhill.

Located next to a Victorian villa off Manchester Road, near Shore Lane, the site is set to house 14 new apartments.

The proposed accommodation has been designed to blend in with its leafy surroundings in what was once a Victorian suburb and will help the city address its housing shortage.

During the construction phase, up to 40 jobs are expected to be created.

The scheme, by Sheffield-based developers A & A Properties, involves replacing a rundown annexe and link block next to Victoria House on a site in the Broomhill Conservation Area, between Crosspool and Broomhill shopping centres.

Seven two bedroom and seven three bedroom apartments are planned in a development of four and five storeys. Victoria House itself is due to be turned into five self-contained apartments. A total of 27 parking spaces would be shared between the two residential developments.

Victoria House was used as offices by a training agency for people working with children, young people and adults, which has relocated to another area of Sheffield. Previously it was used by NHS Sheffield Teaching Hospital for its Department of Human Genetics.

Sheffield-based design consultants/architects SLA Design and planning consultants Crowley Associates are lead advisors on the project, which complements the adjoining villa and ensures the new build will be below the tree line and virtually invisible from outside the site.

Brett Simpson-Lyons from architects SLA Design said: “The developer is committed to delivering a high quality, sustainable development that meets the needs of residents and is sensitive to its surroundings.

“Much needed housing will be provided at a time when there is a major shortage, and there will also be a boost to the local economy through the creation of jobs and generation of income for the local authority.”

The project has been drawn up to comply with local and national planning guidelines.

Planning councillors are due to consider the application later this year. A & A Properties aim to start construction in the New Year.
