Fibre-optic network The Loop links Greater Manchester film studios
Manchester-based fibre-optic network The Loop has been extended by 1.5km to connect with the MediaCityUK development.
The extension provides the area between the MediaCityUK TV studios operated by production company dock10 and The Space Project, a stage and studio facility in the West Gorton area of Manchester, with a direct fibre connection.
The Loop is part of comms firm Gamma Communications PLC and provides fibre infrastructure to link data centres across Greater Manchester
Ashley Griffiths, The Loop’s managing director, said: “This extension of The Loop is part of our continued investment in Manchester and is a strategic addition to the network which has seen a total of 8km of fibre added in the past 12 months.
“MediaCityUK is a leading international content hub and I’m delighted that we are now connected to one of the industry’s foremost studios, post production and platform providers, dock10.”
The chief executive of dock10, Mark Senior, welcomed the extension.
He said: “Visiting dramas and films will have access to our industry leading post production and content management platform.
“The new fibre connection establishes Manchester as a leading player in the TV and film production sector, something we are very proud of.”
