Northumberland developer shortlisted for national home awards
Northumberland-based Anvil Homes, in conjunction with Hub Architecture, has been shortlisted for the Sunday Times British Home Awards 2015 for its £2m residential development at Slaley.
The family run business, which specialises in bespoke, rural residential developments, has worked with Michael Huston of Hub Architecture on numerous projects over the past eight years. Together they are one of five finalists in the UK to have been shortlisted for ‘Development of the Year’ for a scheme of under 25 homes. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 16th October at The London Marriott Hotel.
The development at Slaley is a prestigious new development of three detached, four bedroomed houses, combining traditional Northumbrian style with contemporary living space, located close to the nearby Slaley House. All three properties were sold prior to completion in April 2015.
Anvil Homes, which has been established since 1993, say that being shortlisted for this award is great recognition for their hard working team.
Alistair Carr, director at Anvil Homes said: “Being shortlisted is testament to our fantastic team who work incredibly hard to ensure our homes are of the highest quality and design. For our efforts to be recognised in this way is very rewarding for our directors, staff and dedicated work force.”
The awards criteria states that judges are looking for a development that demonstrates a positive contribution within its immediate environment and will be assessed on external and internal design, layout, landscaping and the provision of services and communal amenities.
Mr Carr continued: “We place great emphasis on site identification and design to ensure our new homes blend sympathetically with their surroundings. With this development we avoided the temptation of maximising the density of dwellings, thereby increasing the exclusivity of the site.”
Michael Huston of Hub Architecture added: “I worked very closely with Anvil on many variations of design before we reached the final product. What we have achieved is a design that blends perfectly into its rural setting, using local materials including Northumbrian stone, timber and slate whilst offering privacy and exclusivity to residents. This development demonstrates the quality of product and design that can be achieved when working closely with one architectural designer. As a small business winning this award would be of immeasurable importance to me.”
Spurred on by the success of the Slaley project, Anvil Homes and Hub Architecture are currently working together on a new development, Orchard Gap, comprising four individually designed, exclusive homes located close to Hexham town centre. This latest development is due to be released later this month with a scheduled completion for June 2016.
