Yorkshire entrepreneur calls on tech-savvy drinkers to launch beer search app
A Yorkshire entrepreneur is aiming to help his follow beer drinkers by developing a website into a new app.
Alex Barlow, author of the “ALL BEER” guide book, qualified Master Brewer, presenter, sommelier and beer judge, has now launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the new app, which has already exceeded 10% of its goal in just 12 hours.
Alex developed a comprehensive beer flavour database, which will be expanded with flavour evaluations by highly trained master sommeliers. His beer evaluation template identifies flavour characters, intensity and relative flavour balance.
The credibility of the template has been confirmed by scientific studies at the International Centre for Brewing Science at Nottingham University, resulting in papers presented at the European, World Brewing Congress and American Society of Brewing Chemists.
Now Alex has started a campaign to allow beer and food lovers help launch his beer search app.
Alex said: “Beer’s superior spectrum of flavours make it the ideal partner for food, yet beer is rarely matched with food in its natural home – the pub, let alone for fine dining. Part of the problem is knowledge - of what flavours you enjoy and work with different types of food - and how to find the best beers for the occasion.”
The ALL BEER Finder App will allow users to find their desired beer, and Alex believes local, national and international ale aficionados and tech-savvy food and drink lovers will help to raise the £12k his business is seeking via Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
The concept of the app follows an increase in demand for craft beer in the UK, USA and international markets (the USA craft ale market has grown by 17.6% in the last 12 months).
Alex added: “There are so many beers of all styles available now, the choice can be bewildering. So people can be guided by the app to find something that suits their particular preferences, whatever the occasion.”
With over £1500 committed in the first 12 hours from ale quaffers and serious investors, there is a definite interest in the ALL BEER Finder App.
Alex concluded: “As a self-confessed beer geek, it’s just the sort of thing I’d like, and is quite different to other beer Apps. I’m delighted with the initial interest and hope people who love beer spread the word so we can achieve our goal.”
