Salford Professional Development to expand in London following record growth

SPD, which is a subsidiary of the University of Salford, plans to roll out a combination of training courses, conferences and exhibitions in the capital after its profits and revenues leapt by more than a fifth in its latest financial year.

The company’s turnover climbed by 25% to hit £2.76m in the 12 months to July 31, with pre-tax profits up by 22% to just over £583k.

Marc Davis, the chief executive of SPD, said: “It’s apparent that there is demand in the capital, where we will deliver the same excellence and integrity to which our customers have become accustomed when attending our courses or conferences in the North West.

“We look forward to sharing our extensive knowledge base with a wide-ranging audience.”

The firm now plans to increase its revenues to £3.5m by the end of July 2016.

Marc continued: “I am pleased with our performance and how my team has worked tirelessly over the past year.

“We remain focused on the future and have recently improved our infrastructure to support the growth of the business in the coming years.”

Founded in 2012, the firm is based at Adelphi House on the university grounds in Salford. Since July last year, SPD has seen its employee count grow from 14 to 35.

Speaking further about the company’s plans, chief exec Marc said: “It is […] important that we continue to utilise the knowledge and expertise of those within the University of Salford and beyond, to ensure our events remain unrivalled.

“The fact that our profits go back to the university, ensuring that we are contributing to its development as a whole, makes us feel very proud of what we are achieving.”
