Applications open for young entrepreneurs’ initiative in Manchester
The Manchester Youth Market, created by We Love MCR Charity, is giving young adults the opportunity to develop their business ideas and sell products on markets stalls in Manchester.
Manchester residents aged 16-30 who have a business idea can now apply to trade for free on the Manchester Youth Market, next May. The market will have 20 stalls and pop-up in different locations in Manchester. The project will also give stallholders the opportunity to trade online via the Manchester Youth Market website.
Applicants will need to make a two minute video on their business idea and why they think it will work for the Manchester Youth Market. All applications will then need to be uploaded onto the Manchester Youth Market website, where a panel of experts will review each video.
Aaron Darke, founder of Manchester based company Zymurgorium, set up his own business making cider and craft beer during his time in university.
“At first, I found the transition from having a business idea to setting my business up challenging, due to the lack of support I received. I truly believe the Manchester Youth Markets will be a great opportunity for Manchester residents with a business idea.’’
’‘The people leading the project in are really forward thinking and are truly altruistic in their efforts to aid Manchester’s young economy. The project will ensure young people get the right business support and help get them on their way to trading their own products!’’
The Manchester Youth Market project has raised over £55,000, including £26,000 from crowdfunding and donated more than £29,000 from the We Love MCR Charity, formerly known as the Lord Mayor of Manchester’s Charity Appeal Trust.
Chris Bird, Chair of Fundraising for the We Love MCR Charity commented,
’‘The Manchester Youth Market represents everything I love about Manchester. Our city is a great place for people with ideas and a passion for business. At We Love MCR Charity we are delighted to support an initiative that encourages young Mancunians to start their own business and become the entrepreneurs of the future.’’
The confirmed partners of the Manchester Youth Market, who have pledged their support and expert advice in business development, include Manchester Markets, The Prince’s Trust, Business Growth Hub, vInsipred, the Manchester College and Manchester Metropolitan University.
