Caddick Construction complete £2.5m Eldwick Primary School expansion
A £2.5m construction scheme at Eldwick Primary School in Bingley, has been completed by Knottingley-based Caddick Construction.
Caddick Construction has been on-site for a year to deliver a significant expansion and enhance the school’s sustainability measures. Three new extensions, around 27,000 sq ft, have been added to the existing school campus.
Andrew Murray, managing director at Caddick Construction, said: “We’re really pleased with the work delivered at Eldwick Primary School. A key element of the brief was to develop a carefully phased construction programme to avoid disruption to teaching and to ensure the school could remain operational throughout the works.
“The extensions have been built sustainably with an air tight construction, high performance windows and timber cladding, which will enhance the thermal performance of the building. The expansion and enhancements that we have made will go a long way to future proof the school’s accommodation and I hope all the pupils and staff at Eldwick enjoy their new environment.”
Existing school classrooms, toilets and administration zones have undergone refurbishments to improve the facilities for pupils and staff. As part of the programme of works, the school has also been modified to become a sustainable performing building that can adapt to climate function changes.
Michael Jameson, Bradford Council’s strategic director of children’s services, added: “The expansion project at Eldwick Primary has brought a number of benefits for children and staff. As well as creating three new classrooms to deliver more school places, there is also an additional staircase, a disabled lift, new boilers, roof works and additional car parking. We have been pleased to work closely with Caddick and the school to help ensure these improvements were made with minimal disruption.”
A self-contained single storey classroom building, a new school kitchen and an administration area have also been completed.
Janice Kershaw, Head Teacher at Eldwick Primary School, concluded: “We are thrilled with the new extensions made to the school. The new space is great for our pupils as well as staff, there’s so much more that we can do now, that we couldn’t before.
“During the work conducted by Caddick Construction the school premises remained open and this was something that was so important to us, it was great to see how accommodating Caddick were throughout the process.”
