Harrison Pitt Architects creates £400k sports pavilion

Lancaster-based Harrison Pitt Architects has delivered a new six-figure sports pavilion for Dallam School in Milnthorpe, Cumbria.

The architectural services firm teamed up with Kendal-based construction company ACE Design and Build to create the £400k facility, which has replaced another sports pavilion destroyed in a fire three years ago.

The 2,700 sq ft centre, built in the memory of former school governor John Handley, includes changing rooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, social space and first aid facilities.

Harrison Pitt Architects’ director, Richard Wooldridge, said: “The new facility has been designed sensitively using natural materials including timber cladding to provide a robust structure while keeping in with the rural surroundings.

“Since the former pavilion burnt down, the students have had to use the washing facilities over at the Heversham campus, so it’s great to finally make use of the space again.”

The project was supported by National Lottery funding, with investment organisation Sport England providing £150k.

Dallam School’s chair of governors, Chris Milne, commented: “The building of the pavilion has secured the long-term future of Tristram’s as a playing field for both the school and the local community.

“The new sports pavilion also complements the impressive new conference facilities at the Alexander Hall at the Heversham site. I am sure John Handley would be very proud of the scheme.”

Elsewhere, Harrison Pitt Architects is currently overseeing the construction of a £3.6m Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centre for Furness College.
