York developer to expand patent-pending tech into new apps

York-based developer 2mee is set to expand its patent-pending technology into other sector-focused apps following on from the success of Lee Westwood’s Masterclass app.

The golf tuition app, featuring the former world number one within the Ultra Reality technology, has had an overwhelmingly positive reception from the golf community.

As a result, 2mee has received a number of enquiries from brands keen to embrace other sports, and want the developer to repeat the revolutionary way Lee Westwood appears on screen while users are recording their golf swing.

The technology was the result of more than two years’ research and development, which has, ultimately, created the world’s first Augmented Reality experience, in which the real-life user merges realities with nine-time Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood.

Using new technologies, 2mee allows Westwood to appear anchored to the user’s environment to create a very real learning experience.

The technology can also ‘slow motion’ the sequenced swings together, and overlay Westwood on to the user to see key points of differences between the golf swings and technique, from any angle or with any club.

The market-disrupting technology allows sports stars and performers enter the environment of ordinary people via smartphones and tablets.

Dave Soppelsa, chief operating officer of 2mee, explained: “The opportunities Ultra Reality technology can open up are endless and applicable to all sorts of sports or activities where visual analysis and repetition will help people learn and improve.

“It has never been easier to put a member of the public into an environment alongside their heroes: we’re already in discussion with some big sporting names and also those from the world of entertainment. The technology is a really exciting development and the possible applications seem endless.”
