Manchester United sign partnership with household brand

In a fresh drive to boost their brand with fans in the Caribbean, Manchester United have announced a new regional partnership with telecoms firm Cable and Wireless Communications.

The multi-year deal will see the club work with Cable and Wireless to develop football across the Caribbean, engaging fans with coaching programmes and Manchester United Soccer School competitions.

From the 2016/17 season, Cable and Wireless’ retail brand, Flow, will become the sole distributor of United’s MUTV channel.

Richard Arnold, the club’s group managing director, said of the partnership: “Cable and Wireless is a respected name in telecommunications and an ideal partner for Manchester United.

“Like the club, they are steeped in history and are seen as a technology leader and innovator.”

He added: “We look forward to working with them in the Caribbean to bring our loyal fans new and exciting ways to follow the club they so passionately support.”

John Reid, the president of Cable and Wireless’ consumer group, commented: “I am delighted to sign this landmark partnership agreement with United, the world’s most popular football club.

“Our aim is to become the home of sports in the Caribbean and there is no better way to demonstrate our ambition than by partnering with one of the biggest sports brands in the world.”

The company’s agreement with United, which earlier this week announced a new deal to engage Indonesian fans, is the latest in a series of partnerships that includes the 2016 Olympic Games and the Premier League.
