Bolton Wanderers latest: Fans launch supporters’ trust with Davies’ backing

Fans of Bolton Wanderers have come together to form a supporters’ trust in response to the club’s ongoing financial issues.

More than 1,000 fans converged at the Macron Stadium for a vote on creating the trust.

The move follows moves to sell the club, which is £172.9m in debt, by owner Eddie Davies. Last month, Bolton Wanderers were issued a winding-up petition by HMRC regarding £600k in unpaid taxes.

Now, the supporters’ trust plans to work alongside any individual or organisation interested in a takeover.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, former player Kevin Davies said: “If I can help in any way with the trust or in any other way, like finding investors, I’ll do it as I love the club.

“It’s still in a perilous position and a lot of questions still need to be answered going forward but this is a start.”

Davies was in attendance at the vote meeting along with former Bolton striker John McGinlay, as was the club’s financial advisor, Trevor Birch.
