The new Booths store in Poulton

Poulton retail complex gets £6.7m makeover

Building firm Eric Wright Construction has completed work on a £6.7m retail redevelopment in Lancashire.

The 84-week project in Poulton-Le-Fylde included a new 32,500 sq ft Booths supermarket and forms part of a £19m transformation of Teanlowe Shopping Centre.

Eric Wright Construction’s work saw it refurbish the existing north mall and demolish the western wing to create space for the new Booths.

Elsewhere, the retail unit formerly occupied by shoe retailer Clarks was extended for new tenants, while the entrance was revamped with a two-storey glazed design.

John Wilson is the managing director at Eric Wright Construction, which is part of Preston-headquartered Eric Wright Group.

He said: “The Teanlowe Centre redevelopment has reinvigorated a prime retail facility that was previously neglected, giving greater shopping choice as well as creating new jobs both in store and during construction.

“Utilising our extensive experience from building stores for most of the big name supermarkets including Morrison’s, Tesco and of course, Booths, we’ve been able to regenerate and transform the town for people who live, work and shop there.”

Architecture firm Leach Rhodes Walker designed the new Booths store, which doubles the size of its presence in the town and adds a new cafe to its offering.

Booths’ estates director, Mike Thomson, commented: “The response to the new Booths store at the Teanlowe Centre has been extremely positive.

“We are very proud and pleased to be at the centre of its redevelopment and enjoyed a busy Christmas.”
