Plans submitted to build 1100 homes in new Leeds community
Templegate Developments Ltd, a joint venture partnership of Evans Property Group and Keyland Developments, has submitted plans to create a new community in Leeds.
The proposals, sent to Leeds City Council, include the creation 1100 new homes, school provision and amenity facilities on the 170-acre site within the Leeds Aire Valley.
Skelton Gate is located to the east of Junction 45 of the M1. The plans seek to bring forward 1100 new homes to address the Council’s housing requirement, which seeks to deliver a minimum of 6,500 new homes within the Aire Valley by 2028.
Skelton Gate is already identified as a proposed housing allocation within the draft Aire Valley Area Action Plan.
In addition to the creation of new family and affordable homes, the application will also provide supporting community benefits including education provision, a foodstore and local centre. New areas of landscaped open green public space are set to be created along with the retention and enhancement of existing woodland belts.
Improvements are proposed to the surrounding road network along with the implementation of pedestrian and cycle links to ensure maximum sustainable accessibility to and around the site.
The Aire Valley area of Leeds is currently experiencing a regeneration with significant investment into the Enterprise Zone to the west of the site where major ground and infrastructure works are well underway on the £96m Temple Green development, which will include Leeds City Council’s Park and Ride transport interchange to connect the area with the heart of Leeds City Centre.
James Pitt, development director at Evans Property Group, commented: “Major investment into the Enterprise Zone is already transforming the lower Aire Valley area of Leeds, bringing new business space, transport links and jobs for the whole city to benefit from. This application is the culmination of two years of consultation and working with the Council on its long-term housing needs through the development of a sustainable community.”
Peter Garrett, managing director of Keyland Developments, added: “This strategic site has the capacity to make a significant and much-needed contribution to Leeds City Council’s housing requirement for the Aire Valley area of Leeds by bringing a vacant site back into use as a new community. In addition to delivering a thousand new homes and a new school with associated community benefits, the development would bring about in excess of 500 construction and operational jobs.”
