Mother and daughter to create 20 jobs with new Warrington nursery

Mother and daughter team Anita and Sally Curbishley have launched a new nursery business in Warrington and revealed plans to create new jobs after securing startup finance.

The pair opened The Little Day Nursery with a £15k loan from Business Finance Solutions (BFS), the North West’s delivery partner for the government’s £310m Start Up Loans programme.

The business, which Anita and Sally expect to create around 20 jobs over the next five years, will have both full- and part-time spaces available for up to 73 youngsters aged between three months and five years.

Before The Little Day Nursery, Anita ran a playgroup for a number of years and served as a buyer for several musical instrument retailers. With the new venture, she will manage the financial, administrative and catering side of the business.

Her daughter, Sally, will serve as manager, having already worked in a local day nursery for the last 13 years.

Sally said: “I had thought about starting my own business for many years so being able to secure the loan and support from Business Finance Solutions to start a nursery with my mum has really made that dream come true.

“Having built a career in childcare I know just how critical early stage learning is for the future development of young children and how important it is for working parents.”

She continued: “Our facilities and our team will create an environment in which we can really benefit our children and their families emotionally, educationally and socially.”

Anita will also use her experience in the music industry to develop a sensory room at the nursery, allowing the children to explore using lights and other kinds of sensory equipment.

Alex Mearns, a loan officer with Business Finance Solutions, commented: “The number of working families is now at the highest level since records began in 1996 and the demand for nursery places reflects that.

“Coupled with the government now offering parents with three or four year old children 30 hours of free childcare a week Sally and Anita are now in a great position to build and grow their business to meet that need.”

Alex added: “Their experience, commitment and great location in St James Business Centre in Warrington will ensure that their nursery will be a much welcomed addition for working parents in the area.”

BFS, which is part of the Manchester Growth Company and has the backing of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, will see £7.5m lent to North West startups over the next two years, creating an estimated 1,500 new businesses and more than 3,000 jobs.
