Work begins on multi-million pound Bolton Central development
Construction work on the £6.5m, five-storey office building next to Bolton’s new rail and bus interchange is now underway.
The 30,000 sq ft Bolton Central development is the latest investment boost for the town, following work on the £48m interchange, the Newport Street revamp and the continuing Market Place transformation.
Adam Cunnington, the managing director of investment organisation PSP Bolton LLP, said: “We are delighted to be playing a part in a landmark development for Bolton town centre.
“The £6.5m Bolton Central will deliver high specification, modern building accommodation in a prime location fronting the new Bolton Interchange.”
He added: “We will be keeping the public informed of how the project is developing over the coming year.”
Infrastructure and construction group Robertson is now on site at the junction of Newport Street and Great Moor Street.
Robertson’s managing director for the North West, Martin Westgate, commented: “It’s always great to break ground on a project that can have a lasting impact on its surrounding community.
“There is huge potential in Bolton Central, particularly when viewed as part of the entire public realm improvements taking place in the town centre.”
PSP Bolton LLP is a public-private partnership between property regeneration organisation Public Sector Plc (PSP) and Bolton Council.
The local authority’s leader, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “We have been approached by a number of businesses looking for high quality office accommodation in the town centre, but we have had a shortage of suitable buildings to offer them.
“This building will be very attractive to potential occupiers and we hope that it will also be a catalyst for future developments and investment, as well as increasing footfall and spend in the town centre.”
Bolton Central is due for completion in January 2017.
