Newcastle Store Raffles Rare Bowie Vinyl for Charity

A leading independent record store in Newcastle has obtained a much sought-after vinyl copy of David Bowie’s final album Blackstar, released just two days before his death, which is to be raffled to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

586 Records has obtained a rare record version of Blackstar and fans of the music legend are being offered the chance to win it, with all proceeds going to world famous charity. Store owner Antony Daly, a passionate Bowie fan, decided to make the gesture after losing his Mother to the diseases 21 years ago.

He said: “It was a huge shock to hear of David’s passing. He created many lasting memories and left us so much superb music. He is the soundtrack to many people’s lives and his records have been passed down the generations, finding an audience with people born years after their release.

“Many critics and music aficionados believe that Blackstar was his best album for years, providing a fitting epilogue to an amazing life, led to the full. Cancer is a terrible disease that affects every walk of life and doesn’t discriminate about who it takes from us. This is my own small gesture to pay tribute to David and raise some funds for a great cause.”

The vinyl edition of Blackstar has been produced as a limited edition and copies sold out almost immediately. Antony received a small allocation for 586 Records and they were nearly all gone within hours, but he decided to keep one back to benefit Macmillan, which is a cause close to his heart.

Tickets will be available from 586 Records in B&D Studios at 39 Pilgrim Street (next door to the Tyneside Pop-Up Film School) until Saturday 30th January. They cost £5 for five and every penny will go to Macmillan.
