Bolton Wanderers latest: Supporters announce bid to acquire club

The Bolton Wanderers Supporters’ Trust (BWFCST), launched earlier this month with the backing of former Trotters striker Kevin Davies, is making moves to buy the club.

Trevor Birch, Bolton’s financial advisor, has been seeking a buyer since owner Eddie Davies said he wants to sell.

In a statement, the BWFCST said: “We have expressed our commitment to help lead an acquisition, in conjunction with local institutions and businesses, from whom we have received a very positive response.

“Our objective is to raise sufficient funding to secure the future of the club for the benefit of the supporters, the community and the town.”

It continued: “We have requested immediate access to management and financial information and preferred bidder status.”

According to the BBC, a consortium that includes BWFC player Dean Holdsworth was also recently in advanced talks over a possible takeover.

Bolton are currently £172.9m in debt and owe £2.2m to HMRC, which last week gave the Trottersuntil February 22 to raise cash through the sale of assets or attract a buyer.
