Apartments at Embankment West will operate under the Affinity Living brand

Plans submitted for 694 new Manchester apartments

Developers Select Property Group and Ask Real Estate have submitted plans for hundreds of new homes at the Embankment West scheme in Manchester.

The firms are seeking consent for 694 apartments at the development, which forms part of the Greengate regeneration scheme and includes public lounge areas, private entertainment space, co-working facilities and a gym.

The Embankment West building will operate under Select’s Affinity Living brand and comprise a mix of studio flats and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments

Select CEO Mark Stott said: “With such a prominent location within this important regeneration initiative, Affinity Living residents will undoubtedly benefit from the vibrancy of this area as it continues to develop and evolve.

“Similarly we want our residents to inject diversity and personality into the area and so have designed the building to actively encourage interaction with the local community.”

If approved, Embankment West will be spread across multiple levels, with the tallest offering a residents’ dining room.

John Hughes, the managing director of Ask Real Estate, said: “We are delighted to be working with Select on Embankment West as their proposals really complement the Grade A 101 Embankment office building we have under construction which will complete in July.

“Together with the CitySuites building, this will fundamentally transform the outlook from Manchester Cathedral and Harvey Nichols over the site.”

The site earmarked for Embankment West is located on the River Irwell’s northern bank adjacent to Manchester Victoria Station, which Network Rail overhauled last October with a £44m investment.

The head of residential development at Network Rail, Tim Dickinson, said the investment had “clearly provided a major catalyst for wider regeneration in the city, delivering much-needed jobs, homes and economic regeneration.

He continued: “This deal will unlock and utilise our land next to the station whilst generating revenue to be reinvested in Britain’s railways, reducing the burden on the taxpayer.”

Salford Council’s Greengate Regeneration scheme includes the creation of over 3m sq ft of residential, commercial and retail space.
