gunnercooke founder launches new law firm

The founder of law firm gunnercooke has announced the launch of gunnerbloom, a new Manchester-based legal practice for young lawyers.

Based in the Rise Escalator enterprise hub, the company’s first office will work towards driving growth for business clients, while prospective lawyers taken on at gunnerbloom will not specialise for the first three years in their training, instead taking on secondments with businesses to develop their commercial skills.

In their third year with the firm, lawyers will be encouraged to establish their own enterprises.

Darryl Cooke, the founder of gunnercooke and the mind behind the new venture, said: “gunnerbloom was created to meet the needs of today’s ever-changing social and legal landscape, creating lawyers who are not only legally trained, but who are fully-rounded businesspeople, shaping the future of modern legal services.”

The first lawyers at gunnerbloom will be Sarah Bennett and Ryan Brown.

gunnercooke CEO Anna Beaumont said: “We have always felt that junior lawyers would become better rounded advisors if their training focused more on the development of commercial and business skills.

“We’ve very excited about the prospect of building this model in gunnerbloom; creating the next generation of lawyers through tailored training and education, whilst helping them to understand the implications of their advice in a commercial context.”

She continued: “With these skills, they will be able to work alongside growing businesses in Manchester, understanding the challenges they face and providing tailored, affordable service to nurture their growth.”
