Ski chalet owners acquire Ambleside hotel for £2.4m
The entrepreneurial couple behind a chalet business in the French Alps have snapped up a hotel in Cumbria for £2.4m.
Jamie and Jenna Shail have acquired Rothay Manor Hotel & Restaurant, located in Ambleside, and plan to move to the site while continuing to operate their ski chalet company in Courchevel, near Meribel.
The sale of Rothay Manor, which features a Regency-era façade and 19 en-suite bedrooms, was facilitated by the Manchester-based hotels team of real estate advisory firm Colliers International.
Colliers International’s Haydn Spedding, an associate director, said: “Jamie and Jenna have great experience in the hospitality industry and will continue with their ski chalet business in France.
“They look forward to continuing and enhancing the reputation of Rothay Manor and are introducing new key staff to the business including the former head chef of the three rosette East Lodge in Derbyshire.”
He continued: “This transaction heralds an encouraging start to 2016 following an excellent 2015 for the hotels team at Colliers International with the sale of 125 hotels in the Lake District, Cumbria and elsewhere in the UK illustrating a significant improvement in activity in the hospitality sector.”
The business’ previous owners, Nigel and Gwyneth Nixon, are retiring to live locally.
