Behind the Business with MC-Media
Bdaily goes behind the business with Chris and Mark Orr, Partners at MC-Media, the Bedlington-based video production company who help businesses and individuals tell their story.
Chris and Mark recently dropped by the Bdaily offices to help us film our commercial values video, which you can see here.
What key challenges has your company recently faced?
A big challenge we have come across is narrowing down who our target market is and who it is we want to work with. When we started MC-Media in February 2015 we did what most new businesses do in that we worked with everyone and did everything. It wasn’t until Christmas time this year that we sat down and really worked out who it was we wanted to work with moving forward.
What is your biggest achievement over the past 12 months?
After only being running as a business for 6 months we had the opportunity to produce and launch a new show on the local satellite TV channel Made in Tyne and Wear. We produced six episodes of the North East Football Show before handing it off to another production company so we could pursue different projects. This included a six part documentary series on Rugby Union for which we have just finished the pilot and are currently seeking sponsorship for.
What is your most important focus for the coming year, and what do you hope to achieve?
Our most important focus for the coming 12 months is finding an exclusive group of clients who we will work with in the content marketing arena via a product we call ‘Vlog days’. The purpose of these vlog days are to simply and efficiently create a months’ worth of video content for a client in one day.
What excites you most about your industry and business?
The thing we find most exciting about our business is that we get an almost exclusive look in to the people behind the business and find out about them and their stories. It’s great to hear how people have overcome some of the challenges of running a business which we may encounter so that we can avoid them.
What do you wish you’d known when starting out?
The majority of our work comes from networking and referrals from people who we have either met in person or via social media. If we had known how important this would be to our growth, we both know that we would have put far more focus in these areas.
Also, Chris may have stocked up on more energy drinks if he had known how optional sleep was when editing the TV show.
What will be the “next big thing“ in your industry, and how do you plan to handle it?
At the moment the next big new thing is going to be 4K TVs. Even though 4K cameras are 13 years old it’s only in the last few years that 4K viewing has become available. We often get asked about 4K. What is it and do they need a 4K TV? So we feel the best way we can deal with 4K is by keeping up with the industry standards regarding 4K content and by educating people about 4K and what it means for them.
