Some attendees said the building could house exhibition space

Artisan market and museum among suggestions for London Road Fire Station overhaul

Property investment firm Allied London has revealed the results of an informal consultation over its project to transform Manchester’s historic London Road Fire Station building.

During its inaugural Create London Road event back in December, the company called on members of the public, media names and the Friends of London Road Fire Station group (FLRFS) to offer suggestions for potential uses.

While some feedback called for the site to be turned into space for a hotel, restaurants, bars and cafés, others said the once-empty building could house street-food traders, fresh produce sellers, artisan markets and pop-up retailers.

Other attendees of the Create London Road event said the grade II-listed site could be used as museum and exhibition space, or serve as a theatre.

Allied London’s chief executive, Michael Ingall, said: “The opportunities at London Road are for distinctive and entrepreneurial businesses that understand service, quality, design, and above all experience.

“Brands will be unique and industry-leading, and they will become a part of something very special for Manchester’s iconic London Road.”

FLRFS founder Adam Prince said he believes Allied London’s consultative approach to the Fire Station project “is more than we could ever have dreamed of for truly valuing citizens in creating London Road”.

Speaking further, he said: “The communication has been impeccable. We will be delighted to see our research continued as people contribute to the consultations going forwards.”
