Smart city firms from London join trade mission in South East Asia

Tech firms from London with expertise in smart and connected cities are to join a trade mission to Malaysia and Singapore with opportunities to meet new investors.

The mission, organised by UK Trade and Investment and the government’s technology innovation organisation Innovate UK, will see the businesses visit incubators, privates businesses and government officials, and they will also have the opportunity to pitch to investors.

Four businesses from the capital will be jetting off to South East Asia as part of the mission, and they include:

• Block Dox: developers of an apartment building app and real-time building intelligence platform which improves communication between residents and building managers.
• Carbon Trust: an independent, not-for-dividend company which helps organisations reduce their carbon footprint and become more sustainable.
• Demand Logic: a web system that utilises data and analytics to find energy-savings and performance improvements in buildings.
• Design for Social Change: developers of the Changify platform which aims to use real-time, community intelligence gathering to improve communities and city spaces.

The London firms are also joined by six other UK connected cities innovators, including intelligent surveillance firm Aralia Systems and virtual travel pass company Multipass UK.

Niraj Saraf, lead technologist for urban living at Innovate UK, believes the mission is a great opportunity for the companies to get a foothold in one of the world’s foremost smart city hotbeds.

He said: “This trade mission will see ten of the best UK companies showcasing their technologies in Singapore and Malaysia, two of the countries leading the way on connected cities.

“These companies’ innovations are key to addressing the challenges that large cities face. These challenges include growing populations, increased demand for energy and the integration of technology into citizens’ everyday lives.

“We believe these companies have huge growth potential and may become a vital part of the global connected cities industry in the near future.”

The trade mission is due to take place from 14 March to 18 March.
