Hydraulic & Offshore Supplies
Sunderland-based Hydraulic & Offshore Supplies has revealed a change in the structure of its management team.
Alan Wills, formerly Managing Director, now becomes Chairman, Don Fenwick, formerly Sales Director, is now Managing Director and Paul Taylor, formerly Works Manager, has changed his role to Director.
The business, which supplies hydraulic tube, fittings, compression fittings, hydraulic hose fittings and assemblies and pipeline materials, supplies a wide range of industries both here in the UK and around the world.
Between Alan, Don & Paul they have over 60 years combined service for HOS, working alongside existing Director, John Joyce, it is hoped the new positions will only strengthen their established customer base, both nationally and internationally.
Chairman Alan Wills said: “I am delighted that Don & Paul have taken up their new roles, even with the challenging conditions within the oil & gas industry at the moment, due to investment within our offices and workshop over the last 5 years we have continued to grow and develop our customer base.”
He added: “Don & Paul, with their wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the industry will continue to ensure the growth of HOS.”
Northern Health Science Alliance
Hannah Davies (above right) has joined the Newcastle office of the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) as Communications Manager.
The NHSA acts as a portal for funders and investors to access the expertise of the N8 universities; Newcastle, Leeds, Lancaster, Sheffield, Durham, York, Manchester and Liverpool; four Academic health science networks and eight research intensive NHS Hospital Trusts.
Suzanne Ali-Hassan (above left) also joins the business as Business Development Manager although will work from the NHSA’s London office.
The company has also announced the recruitment of three non-executive directors and two new to boost its efforts to achieve the best outcomes for the North’s life and healthcare sciences sector.
Non-executive directors
Professor Steve Myint is a Singapore-based health and biopharmaceutical professional with global board and executive team level practice. He provides strategic and medical input into biopharma companies and the healthcare industry globally.
Alan Payne is the Chief Digital & Information Officer at Nuffield Health, the UK’s leading not for profit healthcare organisation. Based in Surrey he is responsible for all aspects of technology supporting the complex needs of the growth-focused, full continuum healthcare organisation.
Dr Stéphane Méry is a former venture capitalist with extensive experience in the healthcare industry. He is currently CEO of Contronics Ltd, which designs and sells laboratory monitoring equipment to UK hospital and life science research institutions. He is based in London.
Professor Ian Greer, chair of the NHSA, said: “The Northern Health Science Alliance represents 15 million patients across eight city areas and hospitals in the North. We’re looking to grow internationally and the caliber of the NEDs we have appointed is a clear statement of that intent.”
Craig Foot, Gordon Brown Law Firm
Solicitor Craig Foot has been promoted at the residential conveyancing team at Gordon Brown Law Firm LLP.
Craig, who is based at the firm’s Chester le Street office, secured his new role following completion of the legal practice course and professional skills course with the University of Law.
Having joined the business in 2014 as a legal executive, after graduating university with a degree in law and gaining on-the-ground experience, Craig’s new role as a solicitor involves the conduct of residential conveyancing matters including sales, purchases, remortgages and transfers of equity.
Craig said: “For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to have a career in law and never thought I’d get to where I am today. Since joining GBLF I’ve been encouraged to continue my studies to allow me to gain my solicitor qualification and the team has been really supportive during this time. I’m really pleased with how far I’ve come.”
Karl Mynn, Hewlett Packard Enterprise
A computer forensics graduate has taken his career to the next level by landing a permanent role with global IT provider, Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Karl Wynn completed a computer forensic degree at university before applying for the Dev Academy training course in October 2014, which gave him 15 months of valuable project work experience.
Jesmond based IT training and resource provider Dev Academy aims to offer prospective developers an alternative route into the technology industry, by delivering an 8-week unique coding course that prepares for entry-level jobs within some of the region’s largest IT organisations.
After helping Karl and other ambitious developers land their dream roles at IT providers within the North East, Dev Academy are urging hopefuls to continue striving for success within their chosen careers.
Karl said “I joined Dev Academy to learn new skills and to help me gain a foothold in the IT industry. After 8 weeks of training, I was taken on as a trainee developer earning a competitive salary and over 12 months, I gained crucial work experience. I’ve since been offered a role with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and I’m looking forward to furthering my career with them.”
Fiona Couling, Stagecoach North East
A graduate from South Gosforth in Newcastle has landed a role as a graphic designer with local bus operator Stagecoach North East.
Working at the firm’s head office in Sunderland, 25-year-old Fiona Couling will be responsible for the creation and delivery of the company’s designs in both print and digital media to support the marketing activity, in addition to improving internal communications materials and upholding the brand image across all platforms.
Working as part of the north east marketing team, Fiona will create content for customer materials, manage the region’s creative assets and deliver design projects across a wide range of channels including outdoor and online advertising, vehicle livery, print, presentations and visual identities.
Fiona said: “I am most looking forward to seeing my designs printed and out on display for the public to see. I enjoy all aspects of design, however I am particularly passionate about the illustration side of things, and I love that I am getting to use my drawing skills in this job!”
Robin Roth, Traidcraft
Team Valley based Traidcraft has today announced the appointment of Robin Roth, formerly Managing Director of Germany-based GEPA, as its new Chief Executive. Robin will take up his position at Traidcraft on 1st October 2016.
Mr Roth said: “Traidcraft is an amazing, pioneering organisation with a very clear and straight-forward mission - to fight poverty through trade. I very much look forward to joining a strong and dedicated team who are committed to transforming lives across the world.”
