SES Engineering Services nabs £10.5m University of Leeds contract

Engineering firm SES Engineering Services has expanded its higher education portfolio after securing a contract worth £10.5m with the University of Leeds.

As part of the project, SES will deliver mechanical and engineering (M&E) services in the refurbishment and remodelling of the university’s Engineering Building.

Built in the early 1960s, the site is undergoing a makeover as part of a £520m five-year campus development programme.

The managing director of SES, Mark Perkins, said: “SES has a long and proud Yorkshire heritage so it is with huge pride that we have been appointed to work on this iconic building which will house and train the next generation of Yorkshire engineers.

“Due to the fact that this is an existing building, it is of course a complex, multiple-phase project requiring high levels of technical ingenuity. Working on a live university campus environment, with staff and students going about their day-to-day activities, requires careful management.”

He continued: “Our teams operate at the forefront of M&E installations and technology, meaning we can offer the most effective solutions to even the most technically complex projects, adding real value to our clients.

“We are looking forward to delivering this complex project, a positive aspect of which will be engaging with the university’s engineering students.”

SES was appointed by the development’s main contractor, Galliford Try.

Roger Spark, Galliford Try’s contracts manager, said: “The mechanical and engineering elements form a major part of this project and we are happy to be working again with SES to deliver them.

“Their expertise and commitment to working with the University and its students will no doubt be a key factor in helping us make a success of this important renovation.”

The Engineering Building overhaul is due for completion in Autumn 2017.
