Manchester developers hit new milestone in 165,000 sq ft Embankment scheme

The mixed-use Embankment scheme in Manchester city centre has hit a new milestone this week, as developers reached the highest point of construction work.

Business leaders and council representatives gathered at the site for a topping-out ceremony to mark the next stage of work on the building.

Once complete, 101 Embankment will comprise 165,000 sq ft of office space along with opportunities for retailers and leisure operators.

The companies behind the project – Ask Real Estate Limited and its joint venture partners, investment management firm Tristan Capital Partners and construction business Carillion – now intend to seek planning consent for an adjacent 10-storey tower called 100 Embankment.

Located on Manchester’s Exchange Station, the development is overlooked by the city’s cathedral.

The MD of property firm Ask Real Estate, John Hughes, said: “It’s fantastic to have reached this point in the build programme. The Embankment scheme is going to be an integral part of a new working and living quarter in Manchester city centre.

“It also forms part of the wider Greengate regeneration scheme on the border of Manchester and Salford.”

He continued: “When both Embankment buildings are completed, the development will be a new business destination and help the area become ‘the place to be’ in Manchester city centre.

“The Metrolink second city crossing will also connect Embankment with suburbs north and south of Manchester city centre.”

In addition to the two towers, the site will also house an underground carpark with space for 442 vehicles.

Salford City Council’s development director, Karen Hirst, commented: “101 Embankment is another exciting development supported by Salford City Council to help provide the much needed new Grade A office space in the city centre or regional centre.

“The new impressive building totally transforms the area and marks another major step forward in the regeneration of the Greengate area.”
