Plans to build 1000 student homes in Liverpool approved

A project to create 1,019 new student homes in Liverpool has been given the thumbs up by city planners.

Developer Bevington Developments today (April 5) secured the greenlight for its plan to transform a derelict site opposite the Byrom Street campus of John Moores University into a multi-block, 350,000 sq ft student accommodation complex.

Once complete the site will include a number of amenities, including a gym, bar, shop, yoga garden, private cinema and communal lounges.

The managing director at Bevington Developments, Greg Malouf, said: “The quality of the amenities, design and fit-out are exceptionally high.

“There will be nothing like this in the UK and it will help attract more overseas students to Liverpool.”

He added: “We’ve seen that parents are willing to pay a premium for higher quality accommodation so we’re going to raise the bar with this project.”

Liverpool-based architects Falconer Chester Hall designed the scheme, which comprises four blocks of eight, nine, 11 and 16 storeys built around a central garden.

With consent secured, work on the buildings is due to begin in late summer. Completion is due in time for September 2018.

Mike Ralph, of Manchester-based development consultancy Zerum Consult, advised Bevington Developments on the planning application.
