Baltic Creative to expand with new studio space for Liverpool startups
The Baltic Creative in Liverpool is expanding with the launch of a further 5,809 sq ft in studio space for startups.
As part of the plan, 19 Jordan Street in the city’s Baltic Triangle area will be transformed into space for Liverpool’s growing digital and creative sector.
The move represents Baltic Triangle’s first foray beyond its original 45,000 sq ft offer, which is currently home to more than 133 enterprises and has been fully occupied for over two years.
When complete next month, the redevelopment will unlock a second at 22 Jordan Street that will see five new shop front mezzanine spaces and three ground floor studios created.
Liverpool-based contractor Monsal Property Ltd has been chosen to deliver the work at both 16 and 22 Jordan Street.
Local architect Miles Pearson, who designed the scheme, commented: “Working with the building’s industrial spaces, materials and structure, we have been able to create nine unique studio office spaces, in the heart of the Baltic Triangle.
“All spaces will have a raw finish: exposed brickwork, fantastic 3.6m high ceilings, and concrete floors.”
Baltic Creative’s managing director, Mark Lawler, said the organisation has been working hard for more than two years on various projects.
He continued: “It is fantastic to finally see one of these come to fruition.
“We have over 90 businesses on our waiting list so 16 Jordan Street not only provides more space in the short term, but unlocks opportunity to redevelop, expand and invest in our existing stock.”
The chair of the board, Erika Rushton, said the growth of Baltic Creative has “surpassed our expectations”.
Speaking further, she commented: “The collaborative atmosphere that businesses here seek, and contribute to, is driving demand in Liverpool’s fast growing, nationally recognised creative and tech cluster.
“This is the first in a pipeline of future developments that will support the growing and emerging businesses in the sector.”
