Yorkshire and the Humber is UK’s fastest growing region for job growth
Yorkshire and the Humber has seen more jobs growth than any other region in the UK, according to new figures.
The latest job figures from NatWest’s Regional Economic Tracker show that the number of people in employment across Yorkshire and the Humber has risen by 3.8% in the 12 months up to September 2015. The rate is twice the national rate of 1.9%.
The NatWest Regional Economic Tracker monitors employment levels in 12 regions across the UK showing where the fastest job growth has occurred on a quarterly basis.
The three areas which saw the most growth include: Scarborough, Hambleton and Leeds.
In Scarborough, the rate increased by 19%, whereas there was a 16% increase in Hambleton and Leeds saw the figure increase by 10%.
Sebastian Burnside, senior economist at NatWest, said: “Younger age groups in particular have benefited from this growth spurt with employment of 16-24 year olds rising 9.2% in the last 12 months, the fastest rate in the UK. But this didn’t come at the expense of other age groups.
“There are 75% more over 65s working now than there were in 2008, the second biggest rise in the country.”
