Danny Donachie, founder of Embodyism

Everton’s former head of medicine becomes entrepreneur with new coaching business

Danny Donachie, the former head of medicine at Everton FC, has launched a new coaching enterprise based in Deansgate, Manchester.

Following a 15-year stint with the Blues that saw him working alongside David Moyes, Paul Gascoigne, Wayne Rooney and a number of other big names in Premier League football, Danny decided to branch off and establish Embodyism, a new venture that would call on the skills he learned at Everton.

Through Embodyism, Danny is aiming to help professionals enhance their wellbeing and boost their performance in the business world. He said: “Your body picks up so much information that we miss, because we are in our heads, and tapping into this resource creates a fundamental shift in behaviour.

“The idea for Embodyism came to me towards the end of my time at Everton and it is working out well so far, due to the good variety of clients I have.”

He added: “[My work] is about maximising performance and fulfilling your unique potential. But it’s also about developing skills which enable you to know yourself on a deeper level.”

Since launching his business earlier this year, Danny has signed up a number of high-profile names, like tennis star Ana Ivanovic and several people he knew at Everton, including goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Danny has also worked with England defenders John Stones and Leighton Baines.

Discussing his time with the Toffees, Danny revealed that the club’s then-manager, David Moyes, had a significant influence on his thinking. He commented: “David had a big impact on me and he created a high performing culture at the club. His strongest quality is his integrity and this comes shining through in every aspect of the clubs he works

“When he first arrived at Everton he quickly realised that he needed to change the culture if he had any chance of succeeding. He quickly communicated his expectations and engendered a feeling of hard work and respect within a group of established players.”

He continued: “In the end the club, under him, was like a family, because you are there so much and so heavily involved. I have bonds with so many people from that time that will last a lifetime.”
