Work begins to bring 89 new homes to north Lambeth

Work has commenced to deliver 89 new homes and a new nursery to the north of Lambeth.

After Ethelred Nursery and a neighbouring children’s centre moved to premises nearby, workers have begun preparations for a project that will help Lambeth’s goal of building 1,000 new homes at Council-rent levels and improving pedestrian access through the area.

The land around Elkington Point, Brittany Point, Ward Point and the old Ethelred Nursery is being developed by Braeburn Estates for Lambeth Council.

Braeburn is doing this as one of the conditions imposed on them by Lambeth Council as a part of the planning permission to redevelop the Shell Centre at Waterloo.

The work, around Lollard Street and Kennington Road, will provide 89 new homes, of which 70 will be affordable homes at Council-level rents. Among these will be 15 individual houses, 6 apartment buildings and a new Ethelred Nursery and Children’s Centre on the corner of Kennington Road.

Braeburn Estates is paying for this development and carrying out the building work for Homes for Lambeth, the Council’s 100%-owned company which will be used to build more and better homes needed for Lambeth residents.

The next step in the development will be the demolition of the old car park on Lollard Street, starting late next month. Demolition should be completed in August 2016 with building work complete in spring 2018.
