King's Cross social enterprise incubator creates 300 jobs in its inaugural year

Business incubator Impact Hub King’s Cross is looking back on a successful inaugural year, after helped over 100 social entrepreneurs scale their businesses in London and beyond.

Launched in April 2015, the programme is part of a global platform that supports entrepreneurs and social businesses through training, networking and workshops, and also provides opportunities for joint ventures with similar businesses across the world.

The programme has assisted 23 enterprises in the last 12 months, including homeless barista training business Change Please and social media training firm Digital Mums, which the Impact Hub claim has led to the creation of more than 300 jobs nationwide and positively impacted almost 150,000 people in the UK alone.

Looking back on the first year, Devi Clark, Scaling Manager at King’s Cross commented: “Impact Hub King’s Cross is a melting pot for social innovators wishing to start up and grow. These social entrepreneurs are immersed in our network, acquiring knowledge, skills, advice, partnerships and connections from top mentors.

“In the past these social businesses have remained small, lacking the right infrastructure or know-how to scale their business. This is changing. The businesses we support are enriching society here, and are using their growth to invest in London’s people and industries – it’s a win-win.”

The Impact Hub Scaling initiative is funded by a coalition of big name backers, including J.P.Morgan, Milan-based Fondazione Cariplo, Greek philanthropic organisation Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Fondazione CRT and the European Commission.

It has a network of incubator hubs in a range of far-flung destinations and is already planning further expansion with the addition of three European cities and six from North and Latin America.
