Washington-based utilities consultancy startup to create 10 jobs

A new firm that works to help businesses save money on utilities is aiming to create a string of employment opportunities after setting up shop at The Hub in Washington.

Founded less than six months ago, Zynergy Utilities is led by director Mike Dodds and employs three office-based staff members and seven field engineers.

Now, the firm is looking to expand with the creation of up to 10 new jobs.

Founder Mike, who formerly worked as Sunderland City Council’s general manager of leisure services, said: “Although still in its infancy, the company has already got off to a great start and we are looking forward to growing the business here at The Hub.

“The location of this centre, close to the A1 and A19, is perfect for our staff and engineers who need to travel around the region and further afield to meet clients.”

He added: “When we started looking around for business premises, we needed somewhere that was not in the city centre but in a good location, provided excellent transportation links and offered the flexibility to grow.

“The Hub, which is part of the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) in Sunderland offers all that and more with access to business and support from the BIC.”

Zynergy’s services help companies find the most suitable utilities deals, reduce their carbon footprint and secure grants and funding.

With a target of helping clients save £3m within its first year, Zynergy also has ambitions to eventually become licensed as an energy supplier for the domestic market.

The Hub’s centre manager, Jillian Coleman, commented: “It’s great to see new start-ups such as Zynergy Utilities choose to locate their business here at The Hub.

“We have fantastic facilities on site and offer the flexibility for businesses to grow and expand without having to outgrow their existing premises and then look to move on.”

She continued: “Although the centre only opened its doors in July last year, there is already a real buzz about the place with a mix of different companies of all sizes operating across a range of different sectors.”
