Crowdfunding victory delivers £112k investment for Cheshire honey brand

Cheshire-based honey brand Haughton Honey has smashed its £80k crowdfunding goal after attracting over £112k in investments.

Having extended the six-week campaign earlier this month, the company managed to draw support from more than 200 investors via crowdfunding website CrowdCube.

Haughton Honey founder Crispin Reeves said: “We’ve got high ambitions for Haughton Honey. Demand for pure, raw honey is growing in the UK and we feel there’s tremendous export potential too.

“I’m thrilled that so many investors have come on board to support us as we continue to expand, and would like to thank everyone who’s got involved.”

Of the the businesses that apply to campaign via CrowdCube, just 2% get selected and only half of those successfully reach their funding target, Crispin explained.

He continued: “It’s been a gruelling four months of due diligence, promotion, meetings, sleepless nights, and answering thousands of queries but we smashed it.”

In total, 211 investors backed the company by investing £112,870, which will allow Haughton Honey to expand by recruiting more bee farmers and increasing brand awareness.

Since its launch in 2014, steady growth has seen the firm secure supplier contracts with a number of national retailers and food companies, including sports nutrition brand The Protein Works, supermarket chain Booths and a raft of retailers across East Anglia and the Midlands.

Now available across over 80 sales outlets in the North West and Midlands, Haughton Honey packed and sold more than 8,000kg of honey last year but has forecast that figure to double in 2016.

Haughton Honey is headquartered at Radmore Farm in Haughton, near Tarporley.
