Clockjack chicken craze swoops across London thanks to foodie entrepreneurs
London-based Clockjack, the free-range rotisserie chicken brand, is spreading its wings across more of London’s high streets and boroughs, launching a new kitchen delivery hub.
Opening on Botolph Alley near Monument tube station in the City of London, the service is aimed at workers in London’s Square Mile. Orders can be placed via the company’s website or Deliveroo, the increasingly-popular food delivery service.
Clockjack offers ethically reared, free-range rotisserie chicken served on the bone or in salads or wraps, plus sides and desserts.
As well as the Square Mile, the new delivery kitchen also covers Clerkenwell, Islington, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel and Wapping.
The story so far
Entrepreneur Jerry Goldberg, former COO of Centre Parcs Europe, founded Clockjack with Fraser Duncan, a former MD at Terra Firma, a European private equity firms.
The chicken brand initially opened a 50-cover restaurant in Denman Street, Soho, in 2012. And Central London’s first dedicated rotisserie chicken venue will soon grow its presence with a new venue opening in Woolwich next month.
“This is a story about a small, innovative, independent restaurant leading the way in the multi-billion pound restaurant market.”
Goldberg and Duncan were inspired to create the Clockjack brand when over dinner Goldberg recounted a restaurant experience whilst on a family holiday to Catalonia. He came across a busy restaurant dominated by a large chicken rotisserie.
Despite a long queue, the pull of the golden, roasting, aromatic chickens was apparently too much to resist. The memory of that meal stayed with him and pretty soon the idea for Clockjack was born.
Hatching a delivery plan
Of Clockjack’s decision to deliver, Goldberg believes restaurants will increasingly take up such methods to satisfy growing customer needs.
He said: “Delivery is the restaurant sector’s “disruptive technology”, changing the way people consume prepared meals. Deliveroo’s rapid growth has demonstrated a huge customer appetite for quality, branded restaurant food delivery, but restaurants have failed to keep up with this fundamental consumer-led change.
“Clockjack is at the leading edge of the restaurant sector’s response - a restaurant-branded kitchen dedicated to delivery only with no front-of-house operation.”
The kitchen delivery hub is open from 11am - 10pm Mondays to Fridays. Its menu is different to the restaurant menu in Soho. Although it is still based on Clockjack’s signature rotisserie chicken, it has been adapted for the delivery market, with dishes starting from £3.95.
