New gin and tapas venues to open on Portobello Road

Leisure operator Leelex Ltd has revealed plans to establish a new three-level venue at 186 Portobello Road.

Property agency Shelley Sandzer secured the 5,970 sq ft site on behalf of Leelex, which now plans to create a distillery, pub and restaurant across the building’s basement, ground floor and first floor.

The 1,309 sq ft basement will house Ginstitute, a bar where customers can learn about the history of gin and make their own bottle of the spirit.

The property’s 1,713 sq ft ground floor will become a pub called the Resting Room, while the first floor will serve as the home of Gin Tonica, a Basque-inspired tapas eatery.

The CEO of Leelex, Ged Feltham, said: “Our heritage has played an important factor in the success of the brand and it was incredibly important for us to secure this site in Notting Hill.

“Shelley Sandzer were exceptional in helping us to achieve this. They acted with confidence and a great understanding of our brief and we believe that we can create something very special for London here.”

Ginstitute, Resting Room and Gin Tonica are due to open their doors in November 2016.

Leo Feldman, a chartered surveyor at Shelley Sandzer, commented: “This beautiful landmark site, full of character, will make an excellent home for Portobello Road Gin and its associated concepts.

“We are delighted to have been able to secure this prime central London location for our client.”
