A CGI of the club's new home

Kendal RUFC’s £11m move backed by Widnes developer Morbaine Properties

Widnes-based developer Morbaine Properties has revealed plans to fund Kendal Rugby Union Club’s relocation to a new purpose-built facility.

The £11m development will see the club move from its current home to a new sports and training complex at Mill Field on Shap Road, Kendal.

In phase one of the project, an 83,000 sq ft store will be constructed for supermarket chain Sainsbury’s on the club’s old site and scheduled for opening in 2018.

Morbaine MD John Parle said: “This development has taken a number of years to bring to fruition.

“I would take this opportunity to thank J Sainsbury and the Rugby Club Trustees for their patience on this project, which will deliver outstanding facilities and amenities for the people of Kendal.”

Morbaine’s investment in the club is supported with a revolving credit facility from NatWest’s Liverpool-based real estate finance team.

NatWest relationship director Hugh MacDonald commented: “We are delighted to be supporting Morbaine Properties with their development of the proposed new facilities for Kendal RUFC.”
