Engineer Stan promoted to launch multi-skilling drive

Engineer Stan Dancy has been promoted to head up a new department at a fast-growing fire and security firm.

His appointment to the new post of quality, audit and training manager marks a new chapter at Jackson Fire & Security of Mold.

Stan will oversee the introduction of a wide-ranging career development programme for the firm’s 11 engineers.

For the first time, all technical staff will be trained to install and maintain both fire and security systems as well as CCTV, access control and nurse call systems.

The firm, which started out selling fire extinguishers 25 years ago, now installs complex fire and security prevention and monitoring equipment into some of the biggest industrial and commercial premises in the region.

Stan said: “Historically, we’ve recruited fire system engineers or security system engineers.

“Now, we’re installing complex integrated systems, it makes sense for each engineer to be qualified in all the equipment we use.

“They get the opportunity to broaden their skills and it’s better for customers, as the first engineer to attend a call-out can sort out any aspect of their contract with us.

Stan will be based in the firm’s new £30,000 in-house training centre, set up to deliver tailored in house training and experience to all Jackson engineers.

Stan added: “I’ll also be providing technical support by phone to engineers at customer premises.”

Originally an electrician in the new homes sector, Stan joined Jackson Fire & Security seven years ago after housebuilding slowed down following the onset of recession.

He said: “The new set-up means all of our technical staff can also learn and expand their knowledge, so they can grow with the company as it expands.”

Managing director Steve Jackson said: “We’re one of the first companies in the fire and security industry to set up specialist training and education in-house for employees.

“It’s much easier for our technicians to keep pace with all the changes in technology.

“There are lots more opportunities to develop their careers as we take on new customers and more complex jobs.”

Formed in 1991, the company has built a reputation for quality, reliability and service, and is a NSI and Siemens’ gold-accredited partner for fire and security systems.

Jackson Fire & Security employs 35 people across branches in Liverpool, Warrington, Wirral, Mold, Cambridge and Glasgow.
