Help young people plug into a digital career
The National Careers Service in the North East will be attending Dynamo’s pre-conference careers event, Get Into IT at Northumbria University, to call upon digital businesses to inspire young people to plug into a career in the industry.
As part of its Supporting Inspiration service, the National Careers Service in the North East will attend the Get Into IT event on the 22nd June, also helping to facilitate a workshop regarding the future workforce of the IT & Digital sector alongside DevAcademy and Dynamo at the Dynamo Conference on the 23rd June.
The National Careers Service is hoping to forge connections with some of the North East’s 6,000 digital businesses to join the service, which matches employers willing to support careers and work related learning activities, with schools and colleges across the region, who have young people keen to learn about the world of work.
Carly Hinds, Partnerships Manager in the North East for the National Careers Service, said: “One of the key aims of the Supporting Inspiration service is to inspire young people and to help inform their career choices and Get Into IT and the Dynamo Conference are a great opportunity to do just that.
“The North East is a leading light of the burgeoning digital economy, with more than 6,000 digital businesses in the region, employing more than 35,000 people and contributing in excess of £755 million to the regional economy each year.
“It is a growing sector as reflected by the fact there are 2000 unfilled digital and IT vacancies in the North East.
“The recently published Digital Powerhouse report predicts that digital business could be worth £5.7 billion to the North East over the coming years. If the North East is to reach that ambition, we need to ensure that young people are informed about their route into the sector, so they can prepare themselves for a career in digital.”
Dynamo’s pre-conference careers event for teachers and careers advisers takes place on June 22 at Northumbria University with the conference on the 23rd June.
Schools, colleges or businesses wishing to sign up to the Supporting Inspiration service can contact the National Careers Service by calling 0191 334 9954 between 8 am and 6 pm.
