Developer PJ Livesey to boost Lancaster housing stock with 62 new homes
A plan to create dozens of new houses and apartments near Lancaster has been given the go-ahead.
The development, known as Moor Park, will see 62 homes built on the former NHS depot site on Quernmore Road.
Work to demolish the existing maintenance sheds and out buildings on the land will begin this summer, paving the way for the creation of 42 new houses, 20 apartments and a retail unit.
The site was previously owned by the Homes and Communities Agency.
The developer behind the scheme is PJ Livesey Group, which also delivered the neighbouring Lancaster Moor development The Residence. Leeds-based Brewster Bye Architects designed the homes.
Steve Alcock, group land manager at Trafford Park-based PJ Livesey, said: “We are delighted to be delivering these new homes in a very popular area. The store was a key request in extensive consultation with the community and there has been strong interest from suitable occupiers.
“As part of our commitment to maintaining open, usable space in the local area we will contribute a significant sum to the local authority to carry out work on the Far Moor playing fields that sit behind the main hospital building.”
He continued: “At the moment they are so poor they can only be used once a week and they need improved drainage.
“The plan is to create two smaller junior pitches and one full sized adult pitch that can be used more regularly. Improvements to the cricket pitch will be carried out at the start of the project at the same time as demolition of the existing buildings.”
The managing director of Brewster Bye, Chris Austin, believes his firm has worked hard to complement the area’s existing homes in its designs for Moor Park.
He commented: “This is the third phase of development on this incredibly popular site.
“Improved playing fields and a local convenience store will be delivered as part of the re-development of Moor Park benefiting the new homeowners as well as the wider local community.”
Chris added: “PJ Livesey is also carrying out works to turn a disused cricket pitch adjoining the site into usable recreational space and a wildflower meadow.”
