Work begins on £12m Aurora Stockport scheme
Building firm Seddon has begun work on a new multi-million pound industrial park in Stockport.
The Bolton-headquartered company is transforming an 18-acre site alongside Junction 1 of the M60 into Aurora Stockport, a £12m development composed of 10 industrial units ranging from 8,700 sq ft to 47,000 sq ft.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier this week, led by Cllr Kate Butler, Stockport Council’s executive member for economy and regeneration, and attended by representatives of Seddon Construction and real estate firm CBRE.
Aurora Stockport is set to create around 240 jobs and forms part of the £1bn Investing in Stockport growth scheme.
Cllr Kate Butler said: “I am delighted to have been part of the groundbreaking at Aurora Stockport celebrating the start of work.
“The opportunities that this work will bring not only for businesses but for local residents too are significant, and I am excited to think about how the transformation and our work will benefit so many.”
Seddon’s North West regional director, Ed Wootton, commented: “Stockport is in the midst of an exciting period of growth and Seddon are thrilled to be a part of it.
“We will be working closely with our local supply chain partners to create jobs and training opportunities during the project, building on our long established approach to employing apprentices.”
Steve Capper, an associate director within CBRE’s national logistics and industrial team, said: “The strength of the Stockport industrial market has been clearly demonstrated by the high levels of demand that we are already receiving, with terms now being discussed with several occupiers.
“Together with the excellent quality of the estate and the prime location I would fully expect this interest to increase as the works progress.”
