Growing North West childcare firm plans 136-place Salford Quays nursery

A Cheshire-headquartered childcare company with sites across the North West is set to expand in Salford with a new nursery at Exchange Quay.

Lymm-based Kids Planet Day Nurseries Ltd is launching a 136-place day nursery at the Salford Quays office development after securing a 6,135 sq ft unit within the scheme’s Number 6 building on a 25-year lease.

Now, Kids Planet is carrying out a complete fit-out of the site, which will include a sensory room, garden and allotment area.

Due to open on November 7, the site will be the 18th business within the Kids Planet group. The firm currently offers more than 1,700 nursery places in the North West, with revenues in excess of £13m.

The company was established in 2008 by its chief executive Clare Roberts and her father, chairman John Hoban. Lucy Kaczmarska, John’s other daughter, joined the firm three years ago as director of early years.

CEO Clare said: “We’re so pleased to have acquired such a fantastic site within Exchange Quay and we will continue to provide the same outstanding childcare across each and every one of our nurseries.

“Kids Planet Salford Quays is a great fit for the Kids Planet Group.”

Jeremy Birkett-Jones, investment director at Hunter Real Estate Investment Managers, which owns Exchange Quay, commented: “An important focus of our £10M investment into Exchange Quay was to introduce a comprehensive amenity and lifestyle offering to enhance the occupier experience.

“We are therefore delighted to welcome Kids Planet to the development and to have this service available to tenants on-site.”

Agents Canning O’Neill and Savills acted for Hunter during the deal, while Kids Planet remained unrepresented.

Earlier this week, Hunter revealed that more than 100,000 sq ft of letting deals have completed in the last year at Exchange Quay.
