Liverpool John Lennon Airport prepares for busiest summer in years

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is preparing for its busiest summer in five years as the school holidays get underway this weekend.

Over Saturday and Sunday (July 23 - 24) alone, as many of 24k passengers are expected to depart from the Liverpool, a year-on-year increase of 13%. According to airport data, the majority of holidaymakers are heading out to resorts on the Mediterranean.

LJLA bosses believe this summer will be its busiest since 2011, with around 750k passengers forecast to pass through over the next six weeks.

Airlines operating at LJLA currently offer flights to 15 Med destinations and the four main Canary Islands. Spanish resorts such as Palma, Malaga and Alicante are predicted to be among the most popular, with high passenger traffic also likely on routes to the Algarve, the Canary Islands and the Greek Islands.

The airport’s latest passenger growth follows on from increases already reported throughout 2016, with H1 figures up 15% in comparison to the first six months of 2015.

LJLA’s head of PR, Robin Tudor, said: “This is expected to be one of our busiest weekends of the year so far and it is likely to remain busy throughout the next six weeks, as the region’s holidaymakers choose to take advantage of the airport’s convenient, hassle free environment and the many great value for money direct flights from here.

“Whilst queue times at the airport are some of the shortest around, we do advise that passengers should allow plenty of time to pass through the airport at this particularly busy time as well as leaving plenty of time for their journey to the airport too.”
